Hagel Lawfirm helping community during the outbreak

On Behalf of | Apr 3, 2020 | Uncategorized

Our office is closed for the public until further notice in response to the public health issues as a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus.

However, our staff is working from homes and we are accessible by email and by cell phones.

We have been getting increased number of inquiries about execution of the wills and power of attorneys with electronic means and witnessing the execution of the wills via teleconference, using software such as Skype or Messanger.

The firm is taking active role and working on a suitable solution for this issue. The current interpretation of the Succession Law Reform Act has been interpreted in a manner that requires phisical presence of the testator and the witness at the time and place of the execution.

We will provide the update on this matter as soon as new information is available.

At this time the Law Society of Ontario published information and procedure allowing commissioning affidavits by electronic means. The full communication of the Law Society with information about the virtual commissioning process can be find in the “Frequently Asked Practice Management Questions Regarding COVID-19” section of the the Law Society website.

We have been also conducting clients’ meetings on Skype.

If you have litigation, administration or planning estate matter, we are here to help. Please feel free to contact us through our website at any time.

Be safe and stay health,

Dorothy Hagel
